VIA is trying to bring out a competitive CPUs to challenge Intel in the market of Netbooks and Nettops (small or low-performed desktop computers). Since the beginning of 2008, several news items have been released about the VIA upcoming CPU using 45-nm technology; first called Isaiah then changed to the codename, Nano processor. However, it has not been launched in the market yet and now we are again hearing new news about the upcoming Nano 3000 that is supposed to challenge Intel’s latest dual-core Atom CPU in late 2009 or beginning of 2010!

Intel is using dual-core Atom 330 in the nettops now.

Nano 3000 processor will be very low-powered CPU based on ARM chip using either a Fujitsu 45-nanometer or TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) 40-nanometer technology. The chip will feature a dual-core graphics engine to enhance the graphics quality of netbooks or mini-notebooks.

However, VIA will release VIA Nano 1000/2000 based on 65nm technology first. They will support latest 1333MHz V4 Bus, 64Bit instruction and built-in 1MB L2 Cache.

Although Via's C7-M processor was the first processor deployed in netbooks like HP mini-note 2133, Intel Atom processor could become a best replacement rather than other sorts of alternatives for netbooks. If you look at briefly to the netbooks available in the market today, they only differentiate from each other with few features and nearly there are no differences between them in terms of CPU and very often memory and Ports, slot and Network connectivity.

It will be very nice to see other CPU options in the netbooks market to bring more variety and more choices for the consumers.
