T-Mobile G1 is now available, Android source code released

T-Mobile USA today announced the national availability of the highly anticipated T-Mobile G1, the first Android-powered mobile phone. Beginning today, consumers can purchase the phone in select retail stores across the USA or opt for an online order from the comfort of their homes at the official site.

Firstly, the G1 will be offered in T-Mobile retail stores and select third-party stores where T-Mobile's 3G service is currently available, starting from a retail store in San Francisco. Be aware that the quantities of G1 in the stores are very limited.

We also spotted a G1 unboxing video where the phone's gets physically compared to several other T-Mobile phones.

Android OS fans have another reason to cheer as today is the official release of the Android OS source code. The Android OS was conceived as an open source project right from the very start, but it's only now that Google release the juice that makes the latest mobile OS ticking. Now everyone, who feels confident enough, can contribute to the optimization and the future development direction of the Android.
