Dell quietly has released its two Premium Studio XPS 1640 and Studio XPS 1340 laptops and they are available for purchase at Dell website. Weirdly, the both 13.3-inch 1340 and 16-inch 1640 laptops start at $1199.

Dell Studio XPS 1340 is the successor of thriving XPS M1330 laptop (and it is the same XPS 1340 that was produced before) and Studio XPS 1640 is only a bigger brother of XPS 1340 and have lots of similarities.

Both laptops have a modern stylish looking- full black interior and exterior laptops with glossy finish and aluminum accents on lid and edges plus backlit keyboards and touchpads help the interior looks more glossy, too.

The striking features of Studio XPS 1340 and Studio XPS 1640 laptops include:

- Studio XPS 1640 offers two edge-to-edge display, one of them is an optional 1080p display with 130-degree viewing angles powered by RGBLED technology to deliver 100% color gamut unlike most display that only deliver 40% up to 60% of color gamut. This display also caters 300 nits of brightness and fast response time of 8ms which is very helpful for the 3D games.

- Built-in optical drive
-
HDMI
- Optional LED-backlit 13.3-inch WXGA for Studio XPS 1340
-Intel Core 2 Due processors up to T9600 (6MB cache/2.8GHz/1066Mhz FSB) for XPS 1640 and up to P9500 (6MB cache/2.53GHz/1066Mhz FSB) for XPS 1340

- 4GB DDR3 of RAM Standard or by default; for 1640 you will have max up to 8GB DDR3 of RAM
- 320GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive (as default) and 500GB 5400 RPM or 128GB SSD for options

-Blu-Ray Combo option for XPS 1640
- Wi-Fi 802.11n
- Option for Mobile Broadband connectivity and Bluetooth

Dell Studio XPS 1340 utilizes a DVD burner, and two display options a traditional CCFL screen with a sharper 2-MP webcam and the other one I mentioned above and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G or optional NVIDIA GeForce9500M- 256MB graphics card and choices for 2.0MP webcam or 1.3MP webcam .

Dell Studio XPS 1640 features ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670 graphics- 512MB video memory, DisplayPort, eSATA port, premium speakers with an integrated subwoofer and 5.1 Dolby Digital output and 2.0MP webcam.

Oddly, after I did a search about this laptop in Dell website I came across a web page that states “The Dell Studio XPS 1640 may fail to enter the operating system (OS) and display a No operating system error. Updating the BIOS to the latest version available will resolve this issue.”

You can download the latest BIOS version from here.
