After a lot of small news spread in web about Sony VAIO P from time to time, Yesterday Sony unveiled VAIO P officially and now this laptop is available for pre-order at Sony website starting at $900 and it will ship in late January.
Sony believes that Vaio P is the lightest 8-inch laptop in the market with the weight of 1.4lbs. This sheer chic laptop is available in four color options including garnet red, onyx black, crystal white, and emerald green.
Sony VAIO P laptop comes with the following striking features:
- Instant-on, ultra-bright XBRITE-ECO 8-inch LED-backlit screen with 1600 x 768 resolution
- Built-in GPS technology and no internet connection required
- Built-in wireless (802.11n) access and Bluetooth
- Built-in Verizon 3G
-Xross Media Bar
- Webcam and microphone
- Up to 4 hours battery runtime with standard battery and up to 8 hours with a larger capacity battery
-Real-time tracking of your current location
- 60GB HDD available or up to 128GB SSD available
- 2GB DDR2 SDRAM
Well, as you see this laptop comes with necessary features for regular travelers but, I really wished Sony had used faster 1.6GHz Atom processor than this 1.33GHz Intel processor. Also there is another big difference between Sony VAIO P and other 8-in or 8.9-in min laptop is lack of trackpad. Sony preferred to use the whole space for its 82-key keyboard and just used a pointer and some mouse buttons rather than a touch pad. Well, this is a smart idea, I think.
The laptop features Intel Graphics Media Accelerator graphics, 2 USB ports, display/ LAN adaptor, Memory Stick PRO (Standard/Duo) media slot with MagicGate functionality, Multi-media Card (MMC) slot, SD memory card slot, microphone and headphone jacks.
The system runs on either Vista Home Premium or Home Basic (32-bit).
